Hoy Oeum is 70 years old and lives in the rural village of Sok San, together with her 2 granddaughters: Nimal (13) and Ching Oer (10). She takes care for them, alone since her son left to go to work in Thailand 3 years ago. He has not been back since, and they talk to each other once a month. Also he sends them 25 dollar a month to live from. She worries a lot about her son and if he is well, and her granddaughters miss their father very much. She has no other income then the money of her son. The local OPA helps her with transportation to the health center if she needs to go. When she was younger she worked on the land.
